i'm a medicin-student in germany.
together with a few other students we started a project to find out how many people trust in the internet to get a diagnose.

we found out that internet was one of the most unpopular tool to find a diagnose: only 10% of our volunteers used the internet to get informations about their diseases.
the most important persons for our volunteers are their parents. over 70% of the volunteers voted for them in the categories "first contact in case of diseases" and in "Mediation of medical knowledge".

But there were a few patients who found some good diagnoses at the internet ... even better than their doctors (less than 10%).

(we asked 74 volunteers (m:f 36:36 (miss: 2)) in the age of 16 to 51 years)

i'm sorry for my english.
