I have recently started using natural hair coloring, i have never done anything to my hair and i don't like when you can see highlights, i like them to be natural looking, and i really wanted to try some so i started searching websites and came across one i thought would be good for me. I haven't done this on my whole head, just highlights. my hair is naturally brown with some hints of red in it, i saw to use cinnomon and water, i changed it to cinnomon, milk, and honey (i have found that it works better as a paste rather than something more liquidy. It gave me light brown highlights that look very natural...i couldn't be happier. I did have to leave it on for like 40 minutes to even see some color. I hope this is helpful to somebody, it was for me :)

great article!-my hair gets natural highlights from ocean water and sun. once in a while i use lemon, but i notice that it does dry the hair a bit. any suggestions on how to protect the hair and prevent drying using natural items? thank you!

My hair is dark brown, and it kinda looks like black. To get a reddish hair color, would cherries work?

Hi, my hair is dark brown but I would like to get it to be a rich chestnut/auburn tone how can I do that? Will the carrot-beet juice, chamomile tea, or lemon juice method do this? And how soon will I see these results?

Hi Robin,

You will never get an unnatural color from using natural dyes unless u already have chemical colorants in your hair. How your hair reacts to color (as well as how your body reacts to food) all depends on your unique make-up. so, this may not produce exact results for people. Its really hard to get rid of grey. If you are worried about what color it will turn out, I would recommend doing test strands that are not so apparent. of course, this depends on your hair length as well. The good thing about natural dyes is that they do fade and wash out over time. Chances are that if you do not like he color, you can wash it out rather quickly.

they tend to brighten and enrich your natural color.

As a man I do not want to get the colours wrong. My natural colour was mousy brown. Henna scares me because I have seen so many women with overly red hair.

My hair has gone mostly grey. Would simmer 1/2 cup dried sage & ½ cup dried rosemary in 2 cups water for 30 minutes, then steep for 2-3 hours bring back a natural light brown?

Is there a way of testing that it will not produce an unnatural colouring?

Hi All, Its nice to hear that beet & carrot juice helps in colouring ... This would even enhance the quality of the hair since the nutrient cotent is high in these vegitables.
So instead of cooking ... lets start applying ... wat say??
