Yesterday, I spent $4 on a gallon of alkaline water. Before investing in a portable ionizer, I wanted to test the results of alkaline water. In order to really appreciate the value of alkaline water, I think that we really need to understand what’s going on in our own bodies first and whether the alkaline water created with machines is any good for us.
Stats from the back of the Bottle
As I wanted to gather some information about alkaline water, I closely read the description on the water bottle that I’d bought. Here is what the label had to say:
Water treated with electrolysis increases it’s oxidation reduction potential. Ionization gives water a safe and abundant source of free electrons to donate to active oxygen and block the oxidation of normal tissue. The oxidation reduction potential of water is dramatically greater than that of antioxidants in food and vitamin supplements. The molecular weight of reduced water is low, making it fast acting able to reach all tissue in a short time. Purified mineral water from Alkaline Water Inc, will cleanse your system of free radicals and supply you with the minerals needed for a healthy body.
The gist of it is that oxidation to our tissue causes disease. Antioxidants fight disease in the body, and alkaline water is the best source of antioxidants. The gallon container I purchased is plastic – so I don’t believe the results are perfect. But, I do recommend testing alkaline water for yourself before spending big bucks on a home system or a portable filter like the Kangen.
What is Alkaline Water?
Alkaline water has a pH level greater than 7 and is also called ionized water. The term pH refers to the potential for hydrogen as it determines a certain quantity, referred to as hydrogen ions in the water.
In recent years, a machine called the water ionizer has been marketed aggressively by their manufacturers to produce alkaline water. These ionizers work by passing an electric current through tap water creating a chemical reaction called electrolysis to turn it alkaline.
Benefits of Alkaline Water
Among the ‘claimed’ benefits of switching to alkaline water are that it helps to neutralize the (over) acidic condition of a person’s body, and being an anti-oxidant, it may improve resistance to oncoming diseases.
However, there is widespread challenge to these benefits across the scientific community. Dr. Lawrence Wilson, MD who specializes in nutritional balancing science says:
One reason for the popularity of these machines is that some people do indeed feel better for a while drinking alkaline water. Quick benefits may include fewer aches and pains, and perhaps a little more energy. However, the problems with the alkaline water machines more than make up for any benefits they confer.
Natural Alkaline Water
I had explored a little about natural alkaline water in an earlier article of mine on the topic of consumer consciousness about healthier water. Since the jury is still out on artificially made alkaline water, I guess the only source that we can trust fully for such water is Mother Nature.
The true natural alkaline water is drawn from deep underground springs in earth. This water passes through layers of volcanic rock and sandstone. This filtration process helps it to naturally absorb essential minerals like Calcium and Magnesium, thus making it alkaline. Although it may be hard to find such springs to draw this water for a common person like you and I, there are some companies who market such water.

Hey Eric,
where do you get this? I am very interested in trying it. I’m seriously considering buying the Kangen — just to save on all the bottles we buy. Also — what do you use to purify your tap? there are so many proiducts out there — what works for you?
thanks so much for reading and sharing!

Searching out alkaline water options. Can you
help? Thanks, Tea bag that makes water alkaline?
Very interested.

Most all natural alkaline water will not leach plastic from the bottle by itself (because it is balanced naturally with minerals). Leaching happens from acidic water. Also, microwaves or sunlight causes plastic to break down.
A Kangen machine can only work with the SOURCE of the water it uses. Basically it splits the minerals with electrolysis, keeps the minerals that will make the water alkaline. However, since most water sources are acidic to begin with, in two days the water returns back towards it’s original state.
The Kangen machine makes water to appear to be alkaline, the color drops and meters are tricked measure a higher reading. Most machines require Calcium drops, or other addetive minerals to sustain the alkalinity. A very un-natural process.
Those who are fighting cancer naturally should choose natural atesian spring water, where the water is filter by mother nature, and the minerals are balanced properly over time. And make sure to buy organic vegetables for a well balanced alkaline diet.

Frank,
thanks for bringing that up. I know people who swear by their Kangen systems. I haven’t invested because of the price and fact that I need to understand water and how it reacts with the body first. what kind of water do u drink? I’ve been doing mineral water in glass bottles.

Can anyone tell me where I could buy the alkaline water by the gallon? I heard some chiropractor clinics sell them by the gallon just for a donation. Some sell them for $1/per gallon.

Eric:
Is this sachet tea bag still available? Where can it be purchased and does it really work?
Thanks

I recently started drinking Alkaline Water. I have a thyroid disease and at times I have no energy. This water is working on me fast. I all of a sudden feel more energetic.
By the way they sell this in Clermont, Florida (off Route 50). This place is only 5 minutes away from my house. I am so grateful.
God Bless.

We are going to Clermont for a 2 week vacation. Could you please send me the name and address were we can get the water while there. We are coming from Northern Canada and on our last visit there, we found the tap water to be highly chlorinated. Thank-you

For those still interested in what “Eric” was talking about in a prior post (the “tea bag” that makes alkaline water) – I’m about 95% certain that he was referring to Prill Beads.
Prill Beads are a natural way to create alkaline water. They are fairly inexpensive, and are available from a number of sources. Just google them, and you will find a variety of suppliers … the water they make is both alkaline and ionized.
I have a Jupiter Melody Ionizer, but I have also wanted to try the Prill Beads because I have heard good things about them.

Do you know a place in Baltimore where I can get the water by the gallon for around the same price? For me economically, $10 a gallon is toooooooooo high! The Yabba Pot is no more for now, so that’s out of the equation.
